Yes for UF. You can deposit once you submit application and get a portal account. We did this on around Nov 2. I wonder how much $ UF makes on housing deposits for kids who don't even attend or get in!

On the flip side, the application fee at UF is only $30 so that plus the housing deposit at $55 is still low than most schools application fee.

Just certain ones. And honestly, its a question we ask when touring and consider it a mark against a school. There is no excuse for it.

Exactly. They are creating this manufactured timeline and crisis that forces applicants who aren’t even ultimately admitted to the school to pay a housing deposit. Absolute insanity!

Why do they manufacture these crises? Waiting until mid January and requiring an acceptance to the school would change nothing for the school. If its all about money, charge a large deposit.

Hadn't considered this until mentioned here, but it seems from this topic I should have done this already. Now I am going to take a look at the college list and see how much deposits cost and if they are refundable or not. Probably worth putting down on the top choices.

I just found out that Florida does this, too.

DS applied but it's definitely not his first choice. Haven't seen it yet.

The annoying thing is they didn't send an email about it, I found out through a FB group.

Yes, You are able to apply for housing through the application status page when you apply to the university. It is encouraged to apply as early as possible. When you apply you secure your spot in line to select your preferred living location. Please note, there is a $25 non-refundable deposit when you apply for housing.

Depends what you want and how much you want to pay.

San Jacinto Hall has rooms with private bathrooms and a dining hall. Student athletes frequently live there but more expensive than most. Close to stadium

Duren Hall is nice too. Private or connecting bathrooms (shared between two rooms).

DC was at honors dorms - Carothers. He really liked Carothers. His friends were in Andrews.

Make sure to apply for housing now or you may not get it at all. There are private freshmen dorms (Castilian) that some prefer over on campus dorms. Some specifically sign up for Castilian over on campus dorms.
