This sounds like a stupid TikTok trend.

Some nights I don't even wash it before bed. I don't wear makeup 99% of the time.

No, why would I dry my face out like that?

No way. Our skin is not supposed to be squeaky clean in order to be healthy. Stop buying into the marketing ploys of companies trying to sell you expensive soaps.

Why do you need to use two cleansers? Well, here’s where the types matter.

An oil-based cleanser is designed to remove oil-based impurities, including makeup, sunscreen, sebum, and pollution.

By getting rid of this stuff first, the second water-based cleanser can really work its way into the skin, removing the likes of grime and sweat.

Yeah. I just really don't have a lot of deeply embedded "grime" in my face.

I'm sure people who want to sell you multiple cleansers are more than willing to make you worry that you do, though.

I take a shower. I try not to put any soap or cleansing agents on my face. OofO moisturizer with spf. That's it. But I never had skin problems in my life, so maybe I just have a lucky skin type in that regard (fair skinned red head).

My mom's bff only uses water on her face and at 84 has shockingly smooth skin.

No and I only wash it at night. My skin is dry to begin with and I live in the desert. Some nights I wear Aquaphor to bed when it's really dry. I rarely wear makeup so not much to wash off.

Not anymore. I've swung in the opposite direction and am washing my face as infrequently as possible. My skin has been getting drier as I've gotten older (I'm 46). I just use a gentle cleanser at night that will remove makeup. In the morning, I just splash water on my face.

Every day. I wearn sunscreen every day so this is imperative.

That's actually stripping your barrier.

That’s a fake term by the beauty industry marketing to sell you barrier repair products.

Thank you!!! I don’t understand where this absurdity of “stripping your barrier” exploded from in the last five years. There is no medical basis for it. Mostly seems like a TikTok social media thing. Non doctors trying to practice medicine.

I remove makeup and sunscreen with almond oil. Then I wash with regular face wash.
