In the next few days, you will hear about some schools extending their deadlines, at least through the end of this weekend. More will follow this week, probably on Monday, giving a few extra days.
Happens every year.
Already saw something about American University.
Aside from a few exceptions like UMich, almost no one cares if you submit 1 min late. You live on the east coast, submit just after midnight? People on the west coast have three more hours. Most schools are not parsing who was present where.
Go ahead and check your EA apps that you didn't finish - most will still be open for submission on Sunday, maybe even Monday and beyond.

I don’t know about Michigan but have heard on multiple info sessions that while they advising not waiting so late to submit they understand these glitches happen and expect them as their servers are also being heavily taxed certain weekends but especially so close to deadline. They also gave example of issues with credit card number not going through etc.
So I personally would not advise my child to email anyone unless late by more than a few minutes. But they would be hearing the annoyance from me about why they waited so long.

DC applied to a school on Nov 1 last year. They submitted with the counselor during the school day, so prior to 3 pm. The portal for some reason said the app was received Nov 2. A quick call to the admissions staff got the date manually changed to Nov 1.
I realize this is slightly different than OP kid's situation, but the fact seems to be that the date can be changed by admissions. So if you find an agreeable point of contact, they may be able to help correct the date.

Right, Michigan is the exception. I agree that most colleges do not care.
The other one I might worry about is UMD. They're firm on Nov 1.
I like the advice to call the admissions office in general (not necessarily the AO from your region) and ask without giving your kids name if it's ok.

I would immediately have your DC send emails to each admissions office, explaining what happened (without trying to make excuses) and expressing hope that they will still be considered for EA. You can then ask your HS college counselor Monday morning for any further advice. It may work, and it may not, but you won't know unless you try.
My DC had an experience submitting an application for an academic program near the last minute, at which point the platform had crashed, undoubtedly a sign that they were not alone in their procrastination. It finally submitted about an hour after the deadline. DC immediately emailed the program coordinator, and was told that the application would be considered. And as a result of that experience, they never again will submit close to the deadline.

Servers often crash because a huge volume of students are submitting at the same time. The colleges are used to technical glitches. Please explain to the college (send an email) letting them know this happened. BTW - this is incredibly common. And every college will send out emails assuring students that the submissios will be considered.
