I remember being told by a new friend in high school that she had always thought I was such a snob, but that I wasn't at all once she got to know me. I was shocked that anyone thought of me that way, but I realized that being a naturally shy/introverted person probably came across that way. So she did me a favor, because I then made more of an effort to come out of my shell and was very aware of this when I started college. Made making friends a lot easier, even though at heart I remain an introvert.

Yes, same. I smile, I interact, but I prefer to listen. I wish I could live in Scandinavia if what a PP says is true. I hate that my natural personality is seen this way and is a deficit.

People are self-involved; they have to assume you aren't talking to them because of something to do with ... them. It can't possibly be that you are just minding your own business. Nope, you must be being aloof and judgy ... because the world revolves around them.
