St John. Half (or more) of the island is a nature preserve. The beaches are fantastic and you can definitely snorkel right from them.

It's safe.

MIght be expensive though

I went last January and spent glorious relaxing days snorkeling, napping pool and beach side.

Do you like spas? The Body Holiday resort in St Lucia has great snorkeling right off the beach. I'm 54 and went a couple of years ago on my own, and had a great time. It is a spa-oriented resort, and you get free treatments with your trip.
