I saw this movie last week and really enjoyed it. The cinematography was amazing and the story was suspenseful and exciting. As a non-Catholic, non-religious person, I felt that the movie was very respectful of the Catholic Church and its practitioners while being truthful to the politicking involved in choosing a pope.

It is very hard to find adult movies that are not full of violence and swearing, so I am grateful for this movie.

I liked it but thought the ending was weird. RF was really good.

I hope we can watch it at home. Tried to see at a theater (Avalon) and all of us fell asleep, including my obsessively Catholic teenage son. We left midway through.

Just saw this. Didn’t even know there was any kind of surprise or twist ending. It seemed ridiculous. I loved the movie (not as good as Two Popes, though) but the ending was both out of left field and too on the nose. No one clapped at the end - snorts, laughter, what the heck is what I heard. And then that’s all any of us could talk about when it ended…. And there was so much more to talk about! It was disappointing in the end. Too “easy” in a way? But I’m no film critic- just a Protestant Christian who is fascinated by all things Rome. 😊

It had the vape hit of all vape hits.

I enjoyed it.

The only cool thing was hearing the Italian, Latin, and Spanish languages being spoken clearly. Perfect grammar.
BTW the ending does not make medical sense at all.

Having studied and worked with priests - I found the characters highly plausible and believable.

The twist at the end was hilarious. The medical condition is rare but it is possible. I don’t think it was supposed to be taken too literally but was a commentary on the cardinal most able to maintain a high commitment to spiritual ethics and sensitivity to tragic realities for many Catholics around the world.

We enjoyed it and the movie was much more intelligent than the vast majority of alternate choices available at the cinema.

I'm Catholic (doubting, of course) and I thought it was an extremely well-done movie. The twist almost felt random ... definitely not the only thing to talk about or think about!

Perfect homily by Lawrence for Catholic doubters 😀

I’ve always liked Vatican based films because of all the intrigue involved. The acting is great with a solid script but the ending was a big stretch. Regardless, I recommend it.

OP - why the eye roll? I agree with PP that ending was great and unexpected …

Because it’s one of those books where the author obviously came up with the ending first and then worked backward to make sure it came off as entirely reasonable and inevitable. It’s right up there with Shoes of the Fisherman. Mainstream entertainment’s portrayal of the Catholic Church is so boringly predictable. Call me back when they decide to adapt The Sparrow for the big screen.

It worked in the movie and is not without historical precedent. I was raised Catholic and worked with Catholic priests and nuns - the movie seemed very authentic in details and casting to me.

For me Conclave was even better than The Two Popes starting Anthony Hopkins. That was very good also.
