I like John Lewis better, but it's a different type of barbecue.

Yes, John Lewis is Texas style, which is not what I personally would look for in Charleston.

We didn’t try Rodney Scott’s, but John Lewis had the best brisket I’ve had outside of Texas.

Maybe instead of BBQ go to Leons. More lowcountry flavor.

Cru is great for brunch and very local, or 167 raw if you don't need pancakes. Millers All Day if you do. Agree on Halls Gospel Brunch. Not my favorite food but definitely an experience.

For a night out, Sorelle, Chubby Fish or Lowland Tavern.

Rodney Scott’s is over rated middle of the road to me. Had it for Xmas last year. Wasn’t really memorable. Is popular due to Netflix special and celebrity. Look at Yelp reviews. Maybe it’s improved.

Rodney Scotts is the best bbq in Charleston. Top 10 in the US. It's popular because it is the best.

This place isn't one the "HOT" ones anymore, but gosh our meal there last year was really wonderful: https://thegrocerycharleston.com/

Charleston has fabulous restaurants but to be honest isn’t really a hot spot for bbq. Even the ones we have are Texas style, even Chinese fusion like King in North CHS. It’s more about southern specialties, oysters and seafood.

Bubba Gumps is a good call. Best shrimps I’ve ever had.

You can eat a Bubba Gumps in other parts of the country. Please don’t waste 1 of 3 meals here in Charleston.

You’ve got to be joking about eating at these chain restaurants while in Charleston. I hope OP knows better.

The restaurant at the Zero George hotel if you want an inventive tasting menu in an intimate setting.
