What about the national historical park? All the buildings with historical info/little museums? That’s what we do at Harper’s Ferry with kids, though only as a daytrip. I don’t think you need multiple days there.

Colonial Williamsburg with Jamestown & Yorktown, plus the Virginia Living Museum.

Or Norfolk— battleship, bay, Chrysler Art Museum, and there’s a kids’ museum in Portsmouth I think.

Natural Bridge area— the state park and Frontier Culture Museum. I think there’s a cave, too.

Luray— Shenandoah National Park plus Luray Caverns (which also includes a toy museum & other small museums on the grounds).

Historic St Mary’s City & the lighthouse not too far from there (you’d have to make sure it’s all open in November).

Go to Lexington, VA. Cute downtown and near Natural Bridge.

If you stay in/near Roanoke, you can visit Mill Mountain zoo, the transportation museum, Center in the Square, hiking trails like McAffee knob, etc.
