Here are your boys options in the area:

Maryland Volleyball Program
MD Juniors
St James
Annapolis Volleyball Club

Columbia attempted to field a boys team this year and there wasn’t enough interest.

The boys volleyball around here just doesn’t get the interest that’s on the girls side. Last year, we had to travel (via plane) to tournaments that attracted high level teams.

Thank you. This is super helpful. I will contact these clubs.

There’s also Rockville Volleyball Academy (RVA), which is a club. For girls’ clubs, Iknow MoCo takes boys up to a certain age.

Oh, previous poster here. As someone else already mentioned, tryouts have already happened for the region for boys club season. You may want to try reaching out to the clubs mentioned, to see if they happen to have spots open, but it’s probably unlikely at this point.

I've been through two years of house/rec and some travel with my DD and have seen zero boys on any team. I'm sure they exist, but...I think my boy would prefer a boys team. Oh well.

this is absolutely ridiculous, if true. why arent there more options for boys-only teams?

It’s a regional issue, not a “boys prefer contact sports” or other stereotypes that others have stated.

Boys volleyball is a huge sport on certain areas of the country, especially on the west coast. There are programs that start as young as 5 in some regions.

But the east coast and the DMV in particular has been slow to react to the growth of boys volleyball nationally.

The supply of good coaches for boys volleyball in the region is a big issue. Also, there’s really no MS volleyball for boys most HS in the region don’t offer boys teams either.

I feel like most boys prefer contact sports because they want to look tough and strong. That leaves fewer boys on the market for sports like volleyball. The opposite is true for girls: the tomboys enjoy the contact sports, but there are a lot who want to play volleyball. I may be wrong, but that's how I explain the higher demand for girl volleyball on the market.
