I think it's the modern equivalent of the sandbox. You don't see as many sandboxes around as much anymore - it does seem to be sensory related, the feeling of the chips/sand falling through your hands.

My kids loved the wood chips more than the playground structures. Bring beach toys!

Mine has done things like this for as long as I can remember. Still does. We were at Ghost Town at Burke Lake Park this weekend and even with all the activities going on, she went about collecting sticks and leaves to build her "campfire". It's great for them for so many reasons. Enjoy!

My 2 yr old has been obsessed with wood chips for at least 6 months...she saw other kids doing it and now always wants to. Thought it was very normal and I've never been concerned
