OP - how do you know your child will be meeting with the counselor soon to talk about electives? It seems awfully early in the school year to start thinking about that.

That makes sense. My child signed up for 1A, because she was starting a new language and didn't know what to expect. I agree that it is very slow-paced. She didn't have many other electives she wanted to try, though.

At Frost you have to go through a process in order to be able to take Spanish/French 1 (credit bearing) instead of 1A (not credit bearing). They highly discouraged taking 1A.


Why do they discourage taking 1A? At my child's middle school, the teacher actually encouraged splitting up language into 1A in 7th and 1B in 8th . Completing 1 or 1b in 8th grade earns you high school credit.


According to the orientation presentation, it's viewed as too slow paced when you could be filling that spot with a different elective.
