Didn't finish my thought. Could be doing a different elective then taking just 1 in 8th grade. They were indicating most kids could easily handle the pace of 1 instead of 1A/1B and so splitting it up just wastes an elective block in 7th.

Language taken in 7th or 8th in an FCPS MS is a high school level class.
At least in my middle school, 7th grade language doesn't give any high school credits. Only 8th grade does.
At Frost you have to go through a process in order to be able to take Spanish/French 1 (credit bearing) instead of 1A (not credit bearing). They highly discouraged taking 1A.
Why do they discourage taking 1A? At my child's middle school, the teacher actually encouraged splitting up language into 1A in 7th and 1B in 8th . Completing 1 or 1b in 8th grade earns you high school credit.
