Take her to a store that sells Munro shoes. They come in five widths. The problem with many shoes is that they are too narrow or then have a wide front and wide heel that you slip out of. They make proper widths like you would have found in 1965. Their shoes also let you replace the inserts with orthotics.

Take her to a good comfort shoe store. I brought my mother to one of those and they did an incredible job finding the perfect shoes for her. She bought several and they made a great difference in her foot comfort and mobility.

If she has orthotics, new balance sneakers are nice because the soles come out. On Cloud can be nice, but they vary and are pricey.

Consider Xero shoes - flat to the ground, no "Arch support" which is a need manufactured by shoe designers and arch support makers. They may take some getting used to, after years of unneeded arch support, but ultimately will be better for your mom -- and for you.
