This. McLean seems slower and more laid back if you’re talking about the actual town limits (not Tysons). If you prefer a downtown, choose Bethesda. Overall choose the commute to work and school.

Maryland born and bred. I cannot imagine living in - shudder - Virginia.

We've historically seen what happens when these posts are made, as It causes arguments between posters who live in both areas.

If the OP actually wanted to find out this information, they could've easily done a search (in the search bar on the main page) and they would've found the hundreds of other posts that have already dissected this exact topic on such an insufferable level. 🧐

Not OP, but I am curious if you don't mind sharing: what is your commute from McLean to the Bethesda schools?

Our kids aren't in any Bethesda school, but my neighbor has children in Norwood. It's a little over 10 minutes if no there's no traffic

McLean is just going to be all highways soon. And strip malls. Tyson’s is a disgusting hell hole. Roads a clogged and always being widened. Schools are average at best.

Aa someone who had to make this decision, we chose McLean for the following reasons:
- More value for our budget (bigger house, larger lot)
- More diversity - important for our kids who are in both public and privates (we are mixed ethnicity)
- More/better public university options

Work remote so traffic was not an issue, but our location puts us a few minutes from 495 so Bethesda is right next door

Live on whichever side of the river one's work is on. The Potomac bridges are grislocked during rush hour morning or evening.

IME the bridges are okay-ish in the morning for school dropoffs, and still not bad in the afternoon. But they are an absolute hellscape in the evenings when most jobs and aftercare get out. So I would not plan to cross a bridge after 4pm on the regular.
