My post-divorce boyfriend, both of us in our 40s, and I were trail riding on mountain bikes and I told him to go ahead of me since he was typically faster. He said, "No, I'd rather stay back here, I like looking at your cute ass."

Nobody before or since ever mentioned that I had a cute ass. His comment makes me smile still, years later.

I love mentoring young adults and volunteering to help them find their path. One of the most life changing things was helping one of them get a full tuition scholarship to a top university.

I stay in touch with some of these kids for years and it means a lot that they thank me years later for being there at a really important time in life. I had great teachers who helped me in high school, and I love doing the same for kids.

I am leaving my job and have had multiple people tell me they are going to miss me. Even my boss is telling me not to leave. We are a remote team. I didn’t realize i had such an impact on them.

I've been told that I am jaw-dropping stunning. I have a hard time believing that, but it still gives me a boost of confidence.

A coworker told me that our director (boss's boss) said I am extremely talented at inter-agency collaboration. Then she saw me in action and said she agreed with his assessment.

I was bemoaning my old rent controlled apartment and my friend said that I was so artsy and creative that I'd made into a lovely, comfortable place where friends want to visit and hang out.

-A coworker who was leaving said I was the best and most knowledgeable [low status healthcare profession] they had ever worked with.
-My son said "You cook so good you could work at a restaurant".

Ooops! One more. I took an art history class and we had to write an essay comparing two works of art done in different mediums. The professor said she received one that was one of the best she’s ever read and proceeded to read my essay to the class. I selected the Pieta and the photo Tomoko and Mother in the Bath.

My daughter’s soccer coach passed this on to me. One of his assistant coaches was talking to him about my daughter and said ‘whoever is raising her is doing it right.’ I’m a single parent, and this just made me glow.

Accidentally bumped into DS once and said something about being a bad mom. DS replied, "No. You are a great mom. Sometimes you just make mistakes."

DS had developmental delays as an infant and toddler and was referred to PT very young. I invented games to get him to do the exercises.

Once at an airport, someone told me that at first they thought I must be an older sister or nanny I was so engaged with my son. Another time at a small store, a woman came by and said, "I love the way you are interacting with your son."

Those years, when for a moment we didn't know if DS would ever have typical motor function (e.g. walking, running, etc), were really, really hard. I never knew if we were doing the right thing or enough. Interactions like these kept my spirits up.

- Someone told me in a class years ago that it was clear that I was really listening to him and it was good to be heard.

- my son told me that he really appreciated me compared to all the other travel moms who drink to excess.

- several of my former staff tell me they always think "what would xx do?" in thorny situations (I am xx)

- a subordinate anonymously put me up for an award.
