My kids love Roblox but it’s only on one device in our home which I have complete control over and I’ve disabled all chatting. I let them play for 20-30 minutes at a time.

My kids are older but just pointing out that a short seller’s whole motivation is to drive stock prices down. Sometimes they find real problems but they don’t care if a problem os real or not as long as they can get people to think they are real.

At some point you need to teach them the street smarts to block that stuff themselves.
As an aside, one of the things I found most amusing with that Massachusetts guy leaking state secrets in the internet — he was in a gaming room with young teens and kept trying to get them into radical politics. But the 13 year old boys really just wanted gaming tips and kept telling him the political stuff was boring. For the most part, most teens are trying to avoid those adult weirdos online — most teens just want to play games with their friends.

Use closed servers or teach your kids to jump off servers with chatting. There's no need for chatting on roblox, and swearing and words does get you banned (for a spell). Also did you know everyone on a server can vote an obnoxious person off. There are controls, but training your kid is key.

I showed this thread to my 12th grade DS and asked him should I be worried about his ES aged brother. He's not an expert by any means, but he's Gen Z and on a cybersecurity kick because he took it in school last year.
He said Roblox had good safeguards for not allowing links, pictures, bad language etc., in the chat. There are parental controls that can be used to prevent DMs. He pointed out that groomers are looking for the most possible targets, so the most popular games are the ones that parents should monitor if they are worried. Often, those that get snared are directed to go to other sites. Therefore, those that have multiple apps available to them, like Roblox along with Snapchat, Discord, or Facebook are more likely to get lured.
I flat out asked if I should ban Roblox, he said no, and that anyone who is a half-way involved parent with their children really don't have to worry about that app.

I disagree. The parents who are afraid of Roblox just haven't looked at what young kids are doing on Discord or Snapchat.

Parents of older kids see the alarmist "OMG Roblox is a hellscape" and think, "Sure, so is everything else, if only it was just Roblox."
The Roblox years are the time to teach your kids about internet safety, like the PP said, because it is inevitable that they will encounter these things. Acknowledging that is not the same as "not parenting at all."
