Our school has a big sign on the gate that "NO DOGS ALLOWED ON PLAYGROUND" because that's where kids play and dogs obviously need to piss and sh#t. Lots of parents want to walk their kid + dog to school and security has to turn them away at the gate and remind them of the rules.
It's definitely getting crazier every year with dog owners just blatantly ignoring the rules.
Please say something about this to the administration I beg you. If you raise it nicely as a "clarification of the rules around dogs on campus" they will issue a reminder to parents not to do this kind of thing and also a sign they need to be on the lookout for this kind of thing at assemblies.
What I've learned about dog people in the last couple years is that if they see one dog doing a thing that is technically not allowed many of them will think "okay I guess that IS okay!" So if they see someone at TJs with their dog then they will start bringing their dog to TJs. If they see other people letting dogs off leash at the park with all the signs that say "Dogs must be on leashes" then they will also start letting their dog off leash. If they see other dog owners leaving bags of dog poop on the side of trails to "pick up later" they will also start doing this and trails will be filled with bags of dog poop. And so on.
We need to start addressing these violations early and often before they become habit. There are parks in DC that were basically colonized by dog owners during the pandemic and now some of us are trying to get them to stop using the parks as off leash dog runs where dogs just piss and poop everywhere (so that human adults and children can use these parks for playing and picnicking -- their intended purpose) and it's been awful because once it becomes habit the dog owners are convinced that they own the park. Social distancing basically created a window for this to happen and now it's really hard to undo (especially because park police and regular police absolutely will not enforce the leash laws or address the dog poop issue).
So speak up! Everyone! Do not allow dogs everywhere to become the norm.
