Mine were probably 2, 4, and still carrying my 5 yo (he has a motor disability). This is for routine carrying to bed, etc. Obviously if they would fall asleep in the car, or they were sick, we would occasionally carry them to bed.

My 2 yo (now 12) has just never been very snuggly and has always been the best walker. We stopped the stroller and carrying at 2.5 yo. It's not sad - physical touch has never been her love language (except foot rubs!). I can get "touched out" by my middle, so I'm kind of glad for it.

OP, at some point, it just isn’t possible. I wouldn’t worry about it (they grow so fast… my oldest could now carry me).

Yeah we very rarely carry our 7 year old but we were hiking over the weekend and she was really dragging the last half mile or so, so I gave her a piggy back for a while.

Turned out she was getting sick and I wound up carrying her to bed that night. I don't mind stuff like this and consider it a blessing I can still carry her occasionally.

The person up thread who hasn't carried her kids since they were just shy of 2 and 10 months makes me kind of sad. To me there are few things better than picking up a sleepy toddler and carrying them to their bed.

DS1 didn't enjoy snuggling or being carried so I'd say around 2?

DS2 loved being carried, but he was huge and I have a bad lower back, so I had to stop at 3.

Aw. I have a 16 year old and this thread makes me wistful. When she was 4, my husband said to me, someday you will pick her up for the last time. And you won’t even know it.

I guess I did.

My four year old is getting too heavy to carry. I will miss it!

Carry her where? It seems odd to be carrying a second grader.

She's in third grade! I carry her upstairs to her bed at night. I carry her downstairs in the morning for breakfast. When she's tired I carry her from the car to her bed. I do a lot of burpees and lift

Does she have mobility issues? I can’t imagine doing this on a regular basis. Occasionally carrying from car to bed during a late night trip home… absolutely

No mobility issues whatsoever. She just likes being close to me.

About 4. And get them to walk too. I was tired of schlepping and pushing a stroller too.

Get them used to walking and not needing snacks all the time. It’s life changing not to have to carry all that stuff around. I got to carry a real purse!!!

This was us too lol. Used to carry older DS up the stairs 8yo 70 lbs but I'm 5'5" and it didn't faze me since I had the arm strength from carrying since baby. Stopped when he was 9 or 10 and could stay up later.

My kids often would fall asleep in the car in the evenings. My 8 year old and my 5 year old are too heavy to carry up the stairs now. Despite their different ages, they’re close in weight! So I was able to carry them when they fell asleep last year, but no more…

Stopped carrying my oldest at just under 2 when my youngest was born.

Stopped carrying my youngest when he learned to walk at 10 months…once that happened he refused to sit in a stroller or be carried. He’s always been freakishly large, so it’s probably a good thing we stopped early. I do recall carrying him once when he was 2, we were rushing out of Disney right before closing to get to the boat…he was pissed and I almost keeled over.

I stopped carrying my kid because she was "too tired to walk" around 4.

I stopped regularly carrying her into the house because she was too tired around 5.

But she's now 7 and I do occasionally carry her around the house just for fun. This morning she didn't want to get out of bed for breakfast so I bribed her with a "hug carry" out to the breakfast table. It's just for fun and I am happy to do it because one day I'll put her down and never pick her back up again and while that's normal and inevitable it's also bittersweet!

DP, but I carry my third grader upstairs for bed a few times a week? She can get around just fine, but we both find it fun.
