I far prefer the dip. I tend to pick at my cuticles if I don't have my nails done, which looks terrible and can be painful. The dip looks professional and lasts a long time. I keep them short and get neutral colors with an almond shape. I think they look polished and they make me happy. Going every 2-3 weeks is kind of a pain in the butt but it forces me to do something for myself so that is nice I guess.

Dip looks tacky too. Anything that has obvious grow out looks low class.

Can somebody explain all of this?

What is gel versus dip?

All the moms around me get their nails done. I've gone with friends occasionally and honestly it makes me feel so sad. The women all seem miserable, don't speak English, and the pimp character walking around supervising...ugh. I would pay three times as much for a normal experience but I haven't found it. It's strange that hairdresser is a normal, ok-paying career for an american-born person but manicurist is not.

Wut.

You really can’t look around you and see how many people have their nails manicured?

I would stick to regular over gel because I have to be honest those UV light things that go on your hands just feel bad to me. The way your hand tingles? I dunno I have had them done but I've sworn them off, it just kind of FEELS like the kind of thing that will give you cancer.

Gel is tacky. It screams southerner who has no idea what is fashionable in 2024.

+1 I love the look of gel nails, but every time I've gotten it done, it's been a huge hassle to remove - not to mention damaging to my nails. I stick with regular polish now.

Anonymous wrote:I recently had my nails done for a wedding (just gel, and short), and it was fun. I'd like to get them done more often, but I'm not very feminine or in tune to beauty standards, and I worry it's...trashy? Sorry to use an overused word on DCUM, but I don't know how else to put it. Could use advice.

Do what you like. Don’t be a sheep.

Yes, not only does it look trashy and increase your risk of infections due to subpar sanitation in 99% of these places, but it also contributes to human trafficking and immigrant workers being mistreated.

People who sit around talking about how getting your nails done is trashy are the trashiest of all.

NP, but can you explain what “dry style manicure with gel” means?

Standard US manicure uses water and pushes in the cuticle. Dry style is also know and European or Russian style and they use a dremel type tool to shape cuticle and add gel to create a nail shape and then add polish on top for color.
Last a long time and pretty indestructible.

If you're getting the really long, pointed nails that's trashy. I really don't like how overused that is on dcum, but it suits those nails.
