I second this. From Children’s or any other reputable service, if you can afford it. The teachers at our school were as certain of the need for an IEP as I was, and having a private evaluation was still helpful.

I agree with this. It’s expensive but I would move mountains get the private eval done. You don’t want to waste time convincing the school when their eval will fall short regardless.

Also, our private eval from Kennedy Krieger was covered by insurance (as was the therapy it recommended.)

Definitely fight for testing while in fifth so it’s all set up before middle school. If you wait the new school will give you the run around about waiting to get to know them. This way they start the year with everything in place and the school knows what they have to do.
