I have to go a lot for work but wish I didn’t TBH! Would much prefer once every couple of years. I think it is a bit like work travel - fun occasionally but tedious when frequent

Are you OP? Did you simply mean formal gown instead of ballgown? Because a ballgown has a huge skirt with a crinoline underneath ... like Cinderella. They are hard to move in and sit in. Hard to get into a car as well. I think of quinceanera parties when I think of the ball gown. Older women don't really wear them.

I’m OP and didn’t ask the difference but I appreciate this. I guess I really meant formal gowns … for the most part lol! I’m totally down for a ballgown event as well! 😊

I’ve seen similar silhouettes on cruises and black tie weddings and galas in DC, NY, NJ, and Chicago.

You could definitely wear that to a charity thing where you just buy a ticket. Like the Meridian Ball, you could definitely wear that dress to that.

People only dress up that much at the opera if it is opening night. And I mean opening night of the season, not even opening night of a particular production.

Most women wear cocktail dresses to the charity galas in the DMV. You could look very out of place in a ball gown.
