Agree. It seems like OP really wants to hunt for them, rather than just buying the damn chips.

OP here again. I went to Broad Branch market this morning and nada. I’m going to try Roman’s. The hunt continues!

Maybe Rodmans or Fresh Market. Or Balduccis, isn;t there one on Democracy Blvd?

The co-op in Takoma Park used to carry good chocolate, but I'm not sure what they're stocking in the tent while they do their renovations. Maybe call and ask? Also the Glut co-op in Mt. Rainier, MD.

Op, I've made that recipe with Ghirardelli bittersweet chocolate chips. They're not disks but flatter than Nestle semisweet chips and also a darker chocolate. It came out great.

I've also made it with all purpose flour (see the first comment) and I don't think it was appreciably different than the flour mixture.

All ways were delicious! And potentially even better after the dough was frozen in little cookie balls and then baked at a later date.

Please report back on your experience.

OP here. So grateful for all the wonderful responses! I think I’ll check out Broad Branch market if they have them. And that King Arthur store that’s opened sounds fab, but it will be a day trip for sure.i might consider the Trader Joe’s chocolate rec too. I just didn’t want to use regional,ar little toll house chips because of emulsifiers that don’t seem to give the melt that I want. Have had them before and just wanted to try something more elevated. Have a nice weekend all and happy baking!
