Most of the time, at least in my experience, there's a penalty, but a lot of these things are at the teachers discretion. I guess if the student had an unexcused absence they'd make some exceptions though.

Some teachers are very flexible. Have consequences in your home for late assignments.

If your kid is turning in quality work, and the teacher said it’s fine, what’s the problem?
