After a bad sunburn, I had terrible shingles that would not end and my doctor did not advise me to stop eating foods high in l-arginine amino acids while on the meds. The meds didn't work until I altered my diet. I took some lysine supplements on my own and it helped end the shingles.

Food sources of arginine to avoid include beer, nuts and seeds, beans and lentils, soybeans and tofu, gelatin, canned tuna, chicken, egg, whole grain wheat flour, raw garlic and onion, and chocolate syrup.

I got it at 34 before the pandemic (so not following Covid or the vaccine).

OP I don't mean to stress you, but cologuard is not enough. Get the colonoscopy. It could save your life or prevent you from experiencing a lot of misery.

+1 just had my first screening colonoscopy last week. They removed a pre-cancerous polyp. I have no risk factors for colon cancer. The doctor told me to return in 5 years instead of the typical 10.

The colonoscopy was not bad at all. The prep is not as bad as I’d heard. I’m grateful I got the screening on time. Just get it done.

Yes, was prescribed one and started it immediately.

I bought some lidocaine spray today and have found a little relief- although just spraying it on feels like 1000 needles!

No. I had the first two shots in the pandemic. I have never had Covid, to my knowledge-have never tested positive.

In defense of not realizing I was eligible for the shingles shot-the last few years I was consumed with my ailing parent/s health (it was a difficult decline and death of one and decline of the other), and wasn't prioritizing mine. I'm certain the built-up stress from all that contributed to me getting shingles.

Topical won’t help, the pain is from your nerves. You need gabapentin for that

It's been 50 for quite a while. I'm surprised your doctor or pharmacist didn't suggest it for you.

--51 year old who just got the first shot--not looking forward to the second because I had joint pain, fever, and a big welt on my arm from the first.

Good to know, I had shingles as a preteen and my mother slathered calamine lotion on me. It helped but gets very itchy. Don’t scratch or you will get scars.
