Then the PP claiming they've "done their research & legacy is a no" is talking out of their rear end. OP, the class of 2028 is 66% in state. I don't know what % are OOS or international, but my 1st yr has friends from CO, GA, CT & NY.This is the first year no legacy due to new VA law. Last year could be considered if mentioned in essay.
Anonymous wrote:This is not correct. My current 1st yr has three OOS friends, all legacy, all white. OP, just like any other school, don't fall in love, have your kid apply and see what happens. Good luck. This applies to underrepresented minorities and ties back to the Grounds Tours that were all about slaves having built the campus per the recently put on hold student guides. This question came about after the Supreme Court case and is an opportunity to share personal / racial info. I know this all sounds like a stretch but I’ve done an enormous amount of research on this. Legacy is a no go at UVa. That is indisputable. You may dispute my rationale on the additional short essay question - although I’ve done my homework on this - but there is no disputing that UVA does not take legacy into account.

Is it too late to retake ACT? Or try SAT?
She does not want to, but is mostly applying places were her score is enough, and she will likely go in state. To be very clear I am not expecting her to get in but we might still apply TO because she has so few reaches on her list. She just added UVA yesterday so I hadn’t realized test optional was an option.

Anonymous wrote:Legacy has no bearing at UVA any longer. At least- that’s what they say. If you have v deep pockets- as in big money donor deep- give it a shot test optional.

Yep, sorry OP. Your kid is gonna have to get in on their own merit, which seems unlikely in your case. Best to stick with your own state school, which for sure is inferior.
