New England soccer mom where both ends of our fall/spring season includes frozen turf, sleet, snow and freezing wind - I don’t care what the logo is, as long as I’m warm and dry.

But - to answer your question, yes it is likely that the people I know that wear them would only wear them with that logo. They can get the same warmth and quality for several hundred dollars less. I wear a north face parka that I got on sale for under $300. I typically wear a wool turtleneck under it for games and I’m fine.

People buy cars, shoes, clothes, bags, food, make-up, phones...all for the brand name and will willingly pay far more.

Same with CG coats. At least they are very good quality and very functional and last a long time. At least if you are paying for a brand, you get a good product.

You saw a CG on an 80 degree day in September? Or are did you mean to post Yukon Territory Urban Moms?

When I worked in nyc I thought they were issued by the city and everyone was some form of municipal worker.
I always under dressed in nyc for the winter thinking it would be like dc.
I eventually got one as I was freezing in nyc.

I do think I have worn since I stopped working up there. Mainly because I have no idea where I put it but they are nice jackets; don’t care about the patch.

I wish I had one for my kids' hockey games in winter. The rinks are cold! I'm jealous of the few people I know who have them...they always seem comfortable.

I’m not a labels person and would prefer to have no patch. My son attends a school in a cold climate and thought of buying one but don’t want him to be a target for a mugging.

I have a Lands End parka that I still wear and it is 20 years old. I also have a Canada Goose coat as I live in Canada and support Canadian companies. I also wear Canadian made boots. I don't care about the logo. I wear it on winter walks and I'm sure it will last 20 years.

They seem kind of try hard to me now that they are (were?) so trendy. At least the big obvious logo ones. Black label ones for actually cold weather seem reasonable

While I agree that $1,200 isn't as much as it used to be, I would definitely argue that $1,200 for a winter coat isn't a bargain. Yes, many people can easily afford this price, but to put it into context for you, $1,200 is also:

2-3 months of groceries
3-4 months of electric bills
4 months of car payments
30 fills at a gas station
almost a full summer of camp for one of my kids

I'm happy that you have $1,200 of disposable income to spend on a coat that's a status symbol, but please remember that for over 95% of the people in this country, it's a huge amount of money.

So sad that people are getting their panties all in a twist about something that costs all of $1200… literally anyone with an email job can easily afford that…. I can’t imagine spending any brain power raging about it let alone starting a whole thread.

I’m exactly the same. Bought mine at TJ Maxx for half price ($500) because I stumbled on one in my size around the time that I was planning to buy a parka in that price range anyway. It happens to be a black one with the black label/patch, which is extremely unobtrusive. I prefer the black logo to the red for that reason.

I was actually a CG skeptic before, but I love my parka. I’ve pretty much stopped wearing my nice elegant wool coats because I never ever get cold in that thing. At this point I would probably replace it at full price if something happened to it, because it does its job incredibly well.

Sounds like you're trying to justify spending an extra $800 on a coat with a patch on the side. I'm not the OP, but I doubt you'd own a CG coat if it didn't have the "Look at me, I own a $1,200 coat" patch on the arm.

I'm in downstate NY and, trust me, a good LL Bean down coat is plenty warm (I'm outside a lot). Doubtful CG in DC is ever a necessity. CG is absolutely status signaling around here. Take away the logo and I really wonder how many people would be wearing them.

+100. Winter's in the DC Metro area are nowhere near cold enough to warrant a coat that is designed of researchers working in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. We only have so many days that get below freezing, and even for these days, plenty of other coat brands will do just fine. The people I see wearing CG around DC in the winter are generally young women who put them on to get from their boutique spin studio to Starbucks, only if they can't park their Audi SUV right in front.

You could ask the same thing of any brand name OP.
Having said that I wouldn’t buy one because they rip the down from live animals. It’s called down because it sounds nicer that feathers. Feathers makes the animal seem real, so we call it down because it sounds nicer.
