U of A isn’t a commuter school. I appreciate how laid back kids are who attend. They are smart but not balls of stress since getting into college in Arizona isn’t stressful and it seems like most kids in state go to one of the state schools and it’s a respected choice.

My DD is a freshman there. Actually applied as her safety last year, but she loved her visit and the coa was lower than our in state options, so she ended up there. Like a lot of her friends, she is having a bit of freshman adjustment, but overall really likes it. She also finished sorority rush a couple of weeks ago so that is helping her.

They do have several ways to get to campus from the phoenix airport so I wouldn’t let that be a big deterrent.

My ds is refusing to apply because it's too far. I wish he did as he'd likely get in and it would be peace of mind with rolling admissions. It seems like a nice school.

I grew up in Scottsdale. Arizona is hot for six months and beautiful for six months. Much of the hot weather is in the summer when your kid won’t even be there. I found the Virginia humidity much more unbearable than the Arizona heat when I moved here.

It's a decent campus but getting there and back is definitely a pain since there are no direct flights. The travel time plus the time change making it harder to communicate with his friends on the east coast turned him off. Housing is an issue. It's HOT. Not just nice weather hot, but HOT.

He was also interested in business and that is not a direct admit program, you apply second year.. He didn't want to be stuck on the other side of the country if for whatever reason he didn't make it into the business program.

Sunny unlike parts of PNW. Students from rainy side of Oregon loved attending Arizona. Tucson is sometimes unbearable in the sun everyone is lathered in sun protection, hat, car shades but it is not humid like DMV. If there's an interesting program there, attend the university.
