Robinson's replacement would get any votes for "Mark Robinson" on the ballot, plus any write-in votes, if replaced today by the NC GOP. It's easier to replace the candidate than mount a write-in campaign.

Once the North Carolina State Board of Elections mails the absentee, overseas, and military ballots on Friday, changing the names could run afoul of the 14th Amendment. Instead, any votes Robinson receives on Nov. 5 would go to the replacement candidate chosen by the NCGOP.

“In other instances when, say a candidate dies before Election Day, the candidate’s name remains on the ballot and the candidate’s widow or widower would get the votes and serve the term,” said Jackson.

Republicans don’t let the concept of not exposing everyone to COVID stop them from doing anything. Especially this guy. I know ballot printing was extended or redone after RFK dropped out, but certainly ballots are ready being printed. Isn’t it too late?

Can Republicans replace Robinson if he drops out today? Or would they just not have a candidate for governor and essentially give that election to Democrats in order to minimize the damage to Trump?
