Yes it is possible and you do not need a trainer. Abs are made it the kitchen. Exercise is important for many reasons but losing fat (not just weight) is 80% diet. You just need to dial in on the diet and be strict about macros. Focus on cutting back on carbs (do not completely eliminate though) and eating in a calorie deficit while prioritizing getting enough protein. You will likely need to use a food tracker to get started so you can accurately track your calories. If you want to be SUPER accurate, you can weigh your food but I think that's a bit overkill unless you're prepping for a competition.

With strength training, a clean diet and being disciplined, 13 months is more than enough time.

Most the advice on this thread is great and realistic. Bottom line, you CAN do it, but it would take the full 13 months of STRICT discipline, diet and exercise. That means no wine with friends, no dinners out on the weekends, etc. Most people do not have the discipline to do that for 13 months. I'll tell you, I workout way more than you and weigh less than you and I do not have visible abs all the time. Only sometimes first thing in the am, I will have some. But I have visible muscle everywhere else. I would have to be super strict on my diet (no sugar, eating out, etc) for at least 2 months to get fully visible abs and I'm not willing to do that. Are you willing to do that for 13 months??

I do yoga, pilates, barre and ab classes for 1-2hours a day, 6-7 days a week, plus walk 1-3 miles daily. I aim for 1200 calories total during weekdays and on some weekends I can have a 1500 cal day. It's not that difficult, but it's a lifestyle change that you have to keep up for your whole life at this point. I get a lot of comments from friends and people at the gym about how disiplined I am and that they wish they could do it. I tell them they can, you just have to want it bad enough to get it.

We can see your abs because of your build and low body fat. You are correct that people can improve their appearance, but it takes way more than wanting it bad enough.

I think it’s possible to get very fit in 13 months! Bring in weight training and Pilates! Clean up your eating and eat for nourishment and satiation. Don’t over focus on the abs. FWIW I am 5’7”, 125 pounds, don’t have visible abs and have never had visible abs in my life and do strength training.

It's partially genetic and partially habit. I am 41 with abs but lost them earlier this year due to hormonal weight gain. I'm back now thanks to intermittent fasting.

Nope

It also depends on how you are built naturally. A pear or hourglass shaped woman has a lot better chance at getting abs than someone who is naturally apple-shaped, even if they are a skinny apple.

This MMA fighter started at 170 and cut to 145 and has visible abs. https://es.pn/2WM7vg6. You can get to 145 easy in a year.

She is 6 feet tall, though.

I’m 50 and have visible abs. I will not have them during the holidays.

I do HIIT 2x a week and weights 5 times a week.

I get abs in the spring summer because I add running 3-4 times a week on top of my normal work outs because I love running in nice weather.
I take winters off from running (mostly) and poof - abs fade away. They come back when running returns in spring.

Obviously I have a great diet/high protein and all that.

Abs are made in the kitchen OP. Fix the diet. Drop two walks add 3 days of strength training

I never had abs and did pilates for a couple years and now have abs when I get to a good (not super low) weight. Currently still have ab crack at a higher weight. Pilates is amazing for core.

Don’t get fixated on abs. Some women never really have a six pack even at pretty low body fat percentages. It all depends on how you store fat genetically. Someone in this thread mentioned you might start showing them at 25% fat. I think that is highly unlikely. For a really defined 6 pack women need to be around 18% or lower and that is sustainable only for very few.

I'm 48 and have visible abs. My body fat is 16%. I work out 2 hours a day. I used to run 4 miles a day, but I can't now so I walk it instead. I do yoga 2x a week - think power yoga, ashtanga, or bikrum - not the fluffy lay on the floor stuff. I lift weights 2x/wk - again not the fluffy 5 lbs to tick a box - I sweat and get it done quickly because I hate weights. Then, for fun I'll rock climb or do something active like bike ride at minimum once a week, but on vacations I'll do it everyday.

On top of this I watch my food. As I age this is the most difficult thing. I get cellulite by looking at icecream or smelling fries. I swear I don't even have to eat them to get fat.

Basically walking won't do it. Cut your fat and build muscles. It's hard; no short cuts

This. Plus strength training, including core. If you do get muscle with strength training and it's covered by fat you'll never see it. You need to lose fat and for that you need to be hungry. There is basically no other way around it.
