If the youngest (or one of the middle kids) is a different gender from the rest of the siblings, they often end up the odd man/woman out, so I don't necessarily think families are happier if they try and try until they get at least one of each gender. Just look at how Rob Kardashian is treated!
(When the oldest is the only one of their gender they still maintain their ringleader position.)
