Had a medical doctor have the nerve to say that to me when I said I was going to adopt a newborn boy. Spoke as if I was doing something nobel for adopting a male. I was startled and didn’t return.

I wanted one of each, but my husband wanted two of the same for this reason. He didn’t care if it was two girls or two boys (we got two girls). He grew up with a close age brother, and 2 sisters close in age with each other.

Tell her you'd love more kids but you run the risk of having girls so decided against it. She's ignorant.

Having two of the same sex is the dream. More likely to be friends, can share a room, get to hand down all the clothes (yes, I get you can do that with opposite sex sibs and it depends on personality, but it’s more likely with same sex). The whole “one of each” thing is dumb and outdated.

I more or less agree with the above. I have three girls but would be just as happy with three boys. I actually wanted three boys and I got three girls and it's the best. What you think you want and what you are happy with don't always align. Most people are grateful for happy, healthy children. What your friend said sounds like a projection of what she has or what she wants or what society thinks you skulk want. All irrelevant and unnecessary. I wouldn't take offense though.

I have two boys and a baby girl. We couldn’t be happier with our dynamic. We absolutely did go for the girl and ecstatic that she is here.

In all of the all-boy families I know the kids get along well. If the youngest (or one of the middle kids) is a different gender from the rest of the siblings, they often end up the odd man/woman out, so I don't necessarily think families are happier if they try and try until they get at least one of each gender.
