We just bought a rav4 prime (plug in hybrid) with the expectation that it will be the kids car in 3 years. Really like the car. We charge every night and typically get 700-800 miles per tank, so about 50 mpg

+1. I would NEVER buy any of those cars for a teen. If someone gave me one for FREE I would sell it and buy something sensible.

This poster was prob joking? Actually, though, I'm guessing the G-Wagen is prob pretty safe in a wreck.

It drives very tight to the road and accelerates fast. I think it feels way more like a race car than a Subaru suv etc.

Consider an older used vehicle.
Nephew had a 69 Camaro when younger, and it was really realllllllllly cheap insurance since it was an older car, about 1/2 the price of most newer vehicles and 1/4 the price of a new Camaro.

Just throw in a truck and you have all the popular choices.

OP, ask your daughter what kind of vehicle she likes. Get her to point out ones when driving around.

I personally learned to drive on a Corolla. When thinking about a first car for a kid, you want a car that is easy to drive, so pay attention to handling and steering.

We are very happy with our Hyundai Tucson. It comes in gas or hybrid. We preferred it over CRV or CX5.
