Wait, I thought what people objected to were Ivy recruits. Walk ons are kids who don't get any help in the admissions process and then try out for the team and make it after admission. Are you saying that you think that's not how it should go?

Every “walkon” we know in ivy was a wink and a nod spot off the waitlist because a boarding school coach called the ivy.

No, roster limits will apply no matter what…my kid has spoken to several Ivy schools and they all said that they will have to abide by the new roster limits. Doesn’t mean a big change in number of kids they give offers, but will reduce walkons.

They abide by D1 roster limits right now in all sports.

Roster limits for men’s sports are already a thing at my kid’s Ivy because of Title IX. If your kid really wants to play his sport in college and can get a recruiting spot at an Ivy or other top academic school, he should do it. My kid went through recruiting process at MIT and the problem is that only about 50% of their recruits get in. He will also have to give up applying ED or REA somewhere else. If he’s ok giving up his sport, then go for MIT. But he should not bank on walking on any team, especially in the current climate.
