+1 for Commonwealth.

McLean School has two VA bus routes, one that serves Arlington & “closer in” McLean and another that serves Great Falls. McLean and Lab share at least 1 of the same bus stops on the Arlington/McLean, VA route. If the school is the right fit for your kiddo (I have one with ADHD, dyslexia, and some math learning differences), then the bus makes McLean School doable from VA.

Lab, Siena's VA location, and Oakwood would be the closest. Oakwood goes through 8th, Lab goes through 12, and I'm not sure about Siena's VA location, which starte about 3 years ago. Lab has buses to/from VA. I get the impression that Lab offers the most specials and extracurriculars because it's the largest dyslexia school in the area. We're in Maryland and went with Chelsea, which we love, but doesn't make sense for you because it's in Hyattsville. McLean and Siena's MD location are also further from you.

KTS has a Virginia bus.

I would look at Newton too. In Sterling but they have a bus from Arlington. Small classes and lots of support. My son loved it there (Now in high school).

Also - some of these schools will accept a student mid-year OR may still have an opening.

I know it might feel like you are making an decision without everything you need. For our family, by the time we realized public was not a path it felt like we had lost 2 years.

It will be another year of recovery + all of the emotional that goes with it.

Op here - thank you all. We are hopeful that our team will have suggestions, but your input has been helpful in trying to figure out what all I need to be thinking about when looking. I am sure that a large part of how we proceed will be based on the report and I am hopeful we will have that soon.
