Can you play falls church with a McLean zip code?

Great Falls now has 22102 included in their zip code.

The suggestion is to play falls church city rec league basketball, not fcybl. The rec league doesn’t have zip code restrictions. It allows kids who are outside the city to play. It is a particularly well run rec league and you could the same number of games/practices as fcybl and more overall playing time bc the roster is a little smaller.

They don't have 8th grade girls in Falls Church. Most of those girls can play for their HS team so the rec teams fall in 8th grade.

The email I just received a few days ago about the league definitely said 8th grade girls could play. It is an unusually talented 8th grader who can make the jv basketball team.

If your kid a pretty good player , he can get to either A or B.

Nope. He has to be a star to take someone's spot on A team. A "pretty good player" is a B team starter/A team bench. And they don't replace benchers with new benchers.

Where is that posted?

I have just been hearing through friends but DD has never been invited or hasn't felt like she could attend.

My son tried out for McLean select last year and didn’t make it. It felt like the coaches somehow knew all the kids.

They probably knew all the kids who were on the teams last year and returning to try out again. I don't think that's odd. In our son's age group, McLean only had two teams and they were not strong so either they aren't attracting good players to their tryouts or they are not selecting the strongest players.

Pp here. We have gone to other tryouts for AAU around the DMV. Talent at the AAU tryouts is stronger. Demographics also very different in McLean vs other areas in the DMV.

Pp here. My kid is equal or better than a few kids on the bench. I have heard on here and from our friends that a coach will not replace a bench with another bench. You have to be good enough to be a starter.

Breaking in 8th grade year can be tough, but it is certainly possible, especially for a B team.

You should be registered by now (which might help if they are holding open gyms), tryouts start early October.
