Here you go. Sometimes you have to see it on 60 Minutes to understand it.

This was 2011 or so.

He was always a little cringe and even back then no one quite knew what to make of him. His songs got very little if any play on hip-hop radio where I lived, it was all pop and even the alternative stations.

His new album has some hits. Fuel is hard, the first time I heard it I was like …. Ooooooh that’s a diss on Diddy and the album came out just a little after the allegations so that meant Eminem was probably sitting on it awhile. https://genius.com/Eminem-and-jid-fuel-lyrics

Eminem is amazing but many of his lyrics dissing other female artists and gay bashing and calling for domestic violence toward his ex wife would not be tolerated today and get him immediately cancelled

He could be canceled now for what he said then. But he won’t be. Cancel culture is dead.

Sure. Taylor Swift, McJagger, Elton John and hundreds of other wealthy entertainers should also "retire" by that logic.

McJagger? 😂 that’s a new one.

He grew up. As people do.

And I bet he'll become a grandfather in the not-so-distant future.

What’s wrong with that? His daughter has graduated college and is married. Not that you need to have done those things, but if you want to be judgy, there isn’t really anything to judge.

He came out when I was in high school. I thought his lyrics were funny and never took any of it seriously. He was open about his addiction and his attempts to get clean. Considering the environment he grew up in, I think he did very well for himself.

He also successful fought for custody of his younger half brother and raised him too. I don't know his music much as I am not into rap so other than mainstream clips, I don't know his art well but I saw a documentary type video on this life and was impressed by him. They also talked to a few other famous rappers and they had a lot of respect for him and good things to say.

Eminem just released a album about exactly this. That's why the old man is still a hit machine.

Eminem is considered top 5 all time best rapper by fans and, more importantly, other rappers. Whatever you think of his early lyrics or current style, he is a once in a lifetime talent. His success is because of his talent, despite his race. Vanilla Ice had a hit and MGK was coming up when Eminem destroyed him with "Killshot", but there just aren't any white rappers who have that X factor and who can rise up to his level.

You’re not sure what happened to him?? Really?!
His edge was due to railing against the system and the man because he grew up poor in a trailer park with a bad childhood and had to scrap his way out and he found a way to survive and a way out of his scrappy street life through rap.
Once he “made it big” then he made bank and all the prior things he had to complain about disappeared. More money = far fewer problems and then once you’re living large in the lap of luxury with every door open to you, it looks fake and disingenuous to keep rapping about your crappy life and how “hard” you are and how difficult life is.

But since “edge” and hardness is his brand, he has to keep appealing to this as his story and maybe it just doesn’t ring true anymore since that’s no longer his life.

This is dumb. Dre and Snoop are still out there and they have money. Why should old rappers retire at age 50 when the vast majority of us keep working long after? We all need to keep busy - particularly those who are used to success.

There are musicians who are old as dirt still on tour not because they need the money but because they love the art - e.g, Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel, Cher, Madonna, and I could go on and on. Do you think they're all broke because they still perform - or is it only the rappers who must be broke if they still work?
