Agree. The location is not "all the way out" in PG. It's pretty accessible from D.C. but it does pull from a different geographic area than a lot of the Catholic schools discussed here. For example, I'd guess there are more Anne Arundel/Annapolis families that choose DeMatha that probably aren't considering GC, SJC, Gonzaga, etc. and are maybe deciding between Spalding and DeMatha, for example. Likewise, many families feeding in from parts of eastern Montgomery County are probably equidistant from GC and DeMatha and choosing between those two. In D.C., I bet it boils down to SJC, Gonzaga or DeMatha for boys.

This is just a guess, but I'd imagine DeMatha has fewer students coming from Northern Virginia than, say, Gonzaga, due to location. And, given the abundance of other private options (and better public schools than D.C. and PG generally), probably fewer students coming from the very most affluent parts of MoCo, but plenty of kids coming from various parts of MoCo otherwise.

From my experience, it's predominantly made up of great kids that excel in athletics, arts, academics, service and community. That's all that matters.

It caters to boys of all backgrounds, racially, economically, socially and academically. It's not trying to be anything other than DeMatha, which is what makes it a truly unique and special place.

Yes, it’s predominantly black and white. It’s also predominantly students of color. Fun thing about grouping statistics, you slice and dice and recombine to make almost any point you want.

The fact is, Dematha does have a lower percentage of white students than many of the private and Catholic schools popularly discussed on this board, most of which are not in PG county.

That’s not what predominant means… It’s predominantly Black and White.
