I’m more curious why you can’t speak of flirtation with your teenage?

I think it depends on WHY he thought you were fighting. If it was purely because of raised voices, explaining that Dad and I are talking about a political issue that we do not entirely agree on and got a little loud, but we aren't fighting, love each other very much, etc.

If he thought you were fighting because your "debating" contained elements of a more personal fight like personal attacks, sarcasm, interrupting each other, mean tone, etc., then I would apologize to your kid and tone it down.

Do you fight about other stuff?

I’d also be worried that your son will pick up it’s okay to do that to women he dates, who liekly won’t find it flirtatious or endearing.

They let people watch?

Isn’t it enough that your child thinks you are fighting? Tone it down, politics aren’t worth it.

If your kid has to tell you to stop fighting then something is seriously wrong

Tell your son it’s your foreplay and he’ll give you a wide berth.

Np. What’s wrong with it? My husband and I love to debate politics too. Most people we know do, actually. No one takes it personally. It’s all about winning the intellectual argument, playing devil’s advocate if need be, etc.

It is fighting. If you sound like a DCUM post, you are fighting. If you are not sharing actual true new information with your partner, but just trading gotchas and well what abouts back and forth, no one's mind is being provided info required for change and you are just airing out grievances, and that is annoying to hear.

How are you going to tell someone else whether they are fighting or not?
OP, it’s normal and fun for lots of people, esp those drawn to live in DC.

To you maybe but not to the millions of people who enjoy political punditry. You know that’s a whole industry right?

Yeah and it is a pointless industry--cheap time filler for TV networks.
