My ES started it this year. We have teams in grades 3 - 6. It has been a great experience so far!

Is there a list of Fairfax ESs offering that program? Thank you!

Northern VA (and Fairfax County) is split into several regions: https://vaodyssey.org/regions-list/

If you’re interested, the volunteer leadership at your region can help you set up a team for next year. OM volunteer leaders are really passionate, and are always more than happy to help get you set up.

My two started at grades 1 and 3 and thrived in it. If you can swing coaching and have already good friends work together, the team will be more cohesive.

Attention span is about 5-10 minutes and then they want to run around. Some kids who are the more "gifted", quiet, contemplative types can do very well, but your average early elementary kid is likely not going to get much out of the types of meetings to participate in the competitions.
Grades 3 and up are where you can have a lot of fun with it and the kids really benefit from the problem-solving teamwork environment.

I wish I saw this sooner. My gifted but shy 2d grader just isn’t into this, and while they enjoy seeing their friends, I can’t help but think there are better ways we could be spending our time.

Oh well, live and learn.

My friends kids did this - loved it and were very into it - they were all very bright and went to TJ.
