Used Barbour is not an in-demand item in the ES set, unless OP's kid being targeted by a roving band of outdoorsy WASPs, but I appreciate your poor attempt at a flame war.

You have no idea. This stuff happens often and you're crazy if you think murders only happen for expensive items. . A person was mudered in Fort Washington in 2005 over a $350 North Face jacket.

I picture a bunch of 9-10 year old Sloane Rangers in wellies, corduroys, and tweed jackets menacingly circling up, demanding the jacket.

By 4th grade your kid should be capable of looking after their coat. Of course he should wear it. What's the other option? "This is my weekend coat"?

Anonymous wrote:How does a 4th grader even know what Barbour is? Its used. No one is going to steal it. If he loses stuff and you will be upset, don’t let him take it. My 4th grader wouldn’t even wear a coat unless he was sledding.

+1 just wear it unless you'd be bummed about losing it

What's the point of having it if your child isn't going to wear it?

Put a sticker with the kid's name on it and let them wear it as much as they want. If they're anything like my kids, they will not be interested in the fancy brand-name coat and will prefer to wear the worn-out sweatshirt hoodie from the school they attended 4 years ago.

The real waxed Barbour is 285$ with hood new. Are most people spending that for elementary rain wear? I do love mine but it’s definitely a tramping around keeping dry coat and I’m kind of wondering how comfortable it would be on the playground.

When I give someone a gift, I'd like them to use it as frequently as possible. Send your child to school in the Barbour. When else are they going to wear it? Never.
