I care. If a man feels like a place is unsafe he shouldn't go. Or he should stay in at night. He also may want to always travel in a group. He needs to watch his drink. He needs to ensure that his clothing or accessories aren't attracting unwanted attention. He needs to avoid buying drink for others or acting flashy with his cash. He needs to be suspicious of strange women. He probably shouldn't talk to strange women at all. Maybe he can also carry a whistle of some kind. He can make sure to yell "fire" while things are going south as that may attract more attention than just screaming.
I care, but men need to care about their own safety too!
I see what you did there. And yet there's some truth in that men traveling to Colombia may need to exercise some of the same precautions women have taken for decades.
I wonder if "passport bros" and their ilk are going to give safety advice to men. Nah, they'll probably just whine that no one cares.
Childless cat ladies are clearly not happy about American guys hooking up with Colombian babes!![]()
Huh? What an odd response. It sounds like you don't want men to stay safe.
Anyway, if you want to insult me (which again, odd thing to do) you might want to step it up. You sound like one of those elders in 1988 who were calling people "hippies" as an insult.
I think you meant 1968.
This sort of crime is not unusual, though ending in death is uncommon. Happened to another American tourist in Rio a couple weeks ago. Went to a club in Lapa (sketchy neighborhood) and met two "friendly"young women. Took them back to his Air BnB and they drugged him too much. He died. (They did arrest one of the women).
Guys - If you are in your 40s and you are in a developing country and 20-somethings start giiving you a lot of attention, remember two very important things.
1) You are not that rich; and,
2) You are not that hot.

Anonymous wrote:The Embassy can't protect Americans who stupidly travel to third world crime cities and are then victims of crime. Being brutally murdered for an Ipad is a risk you take "vacationing" in Colombia. Its cheap for a reason.

Why would the embassy not share the autopsy report?

Anonymous wrote:Colombia is notorious right now for men being drugged at bars/clubs by women and then taken back to their room where they are robbed of all their belongings. Often the criminal drug them too much and the person dies.
