Dave and busters (and Rio overall) has become a place I wouldn't let kids hang out on a Friday. Same goes for Bethesda and Rockville

Depending on the house they gather, ping Pong, video games, billiards, air hockey...
Doing nails and temporary tattoos
Assembling outfits from the thrift store
Some creative project, like developing a one act play or talent show performance or school art show

My kids are much more likely to spend the evening wandering a downtown area, ending up at chipotle (always chipotle), watching a school play, going to a basketball game (better attendance!) or going to someone's house to hang out.
Typically a school play is also only a handful of consecutive day or nights.
One of my kids and his friends will go see plays of other schools, but yes it’s a matter of stringing together a lot of events each of which happen a few times a year. Football is a handful of home games too.
Are plays on Friday nights?
Our school is big on theater but it's still far from a popular thing for students to go see u less a sibling is involved with theater
