Renovated dorms with central air was one of the items on our college search check-list, as was decent dining hall food. For the money families have to pay, this should be included.
DC1 is in a decent college with a good quality of life. I hope DC2 will find something similar.

DC1 is at George Washington. His dorm has central air and the food is good.
He was accepted into UMD's Honors program, which would have got him into the renovated Dorchester dorm, also with central air. Food isn't as good.
We also went to William & Mary's accepted student day, and visited a meh dorm room with window unit, and the food was terrible (but apparently they revamped their food offerings). St John's College in Annapolis wasn't very comfortable either. DC did not apply to Middlebury and Skidmore, but visited, and they both looked nice, Middlebury being quite lovely, airy and modern. Vassar is terribly run-down.

Food connoisseur with lots of opinions.

Not sure if it is all or only some dorms but Claremont McKenna has dorms without AC.

DC is at a school that didn’t offer AC in all their dorms. DC has asthma and we requested AC (central AC specifically) as a medical

You have to do your research, either online or on a tour. Within one uni, some forms have AC and some don’t. Before you accept their offer, ask how to get confirmation for the dorm you want.

Even Minnesota has a/c!

Juniata has it in the newest dorm, (along with elevators). A freshman would not likely get in that dorm.

Davidson has central AC in all dorms.

What a convoluted way for them to say “we hate our students.”

Even in dorms that have it, it might not have the effect your kid wants/needs.

My oldest was in a dorm with A/C--it was controlled by the university for the entire building and students complained it was too cold in the summer with the A/C on full blast, then in the winter it was too hot with the heat.

My youngest is now in a dorm with A/C but says it isn't cold enough. We got him a WooZoo fan that he says helps a lot.

Moved DS into freshman dorm at George Mason and the dorm was way better than expected. Very clean, new carpet, newish clean furniture, modern AC controls that actually seem to work. Dorm is very close to dining, gym and classes. Faculty and students that we've met seem great too!
