Our 7 yr old DD often has nighttime regressions during transition periods. Thus she has had two nighttime accidents in the last week. But we've never considered going back to pull ups because (1) she'd really hate it and it would feel like punishment instead of incentive and (2) she can go months between accidents even if when she has accidents she often has several in a row.

We address by being extra vigilant about bathroom visits before sleep (after accidents we will often have her visit the bathroom a second time after reading in bed and just before lights out just to really clear out her bladder) and being careful about liquids after 7pm.

I will also often wake her 15 minutes early on subsequent mornings just to see if she needs to go. If she says no I let her go back to sleep or at least hang out in bed but sometimes she gets up and goes. Often her accidents are happening right before getting out of bed -- I think she's just more tired than usual due to school starting and it's making it harder for her to wake up enough to go to the bathroom first thing.

Are you going to be helping to get him ready for bed? In my experience the side fastening diapers have less chance of any leaks because you can adjust to make certain it has a snug fit. Under his pajamas they are going to be essentially the same thing. If you want to be discreet you need to make sure he gets changed as soon as he wakes up. If he’s running around with a wet heavy diaper than other kids might notice.

How old is he and what does he usually wear for nighttime?

Just underwear for right now. We have a washable bed mat that we use and rotate out 2-3 day by day. He will be 7 by the time we're leaving for this trip.

I would get him used to wearing protection at night so it isn’t such a big deal to him when you take your trip. There are size 7 overnight diapers that would likely still fit him or you can try the pull-ups. He might not like the idea of having to wear one at first but just reassure him he is still a big kid and it will help keep his bed dry.

If the waistband is visible it will be obvious that he's wearing one, But in my experience most kids either won't notice or won't care.

7 year old DD wakes up wet most nights. We've tried most things but are having to change the bed most nights.
