That club was Joe Flaherty’s Dolphins and probably would have been a great fit, but I don’t think they have a competitive age group program this year. There was a shake-up with the club and many of the coaches went to a new club called Quince Orchard Swim Academy which is in Gaithersburg. Try to reach out to Sea Devils, it’s a more low key club that I can’t imagine being full to the point that they would reject a kid with club experience.

Didn’t the team just fold?

Seasoned PVS swim parent here with kids now swimming in college. Given your situation, I would try to get on any available PVS team in MD close to where you live. Even if you don't intend to stay, you at least one DC to keep swimming. Then you can always switch in the spring when change-ups happen.

OP if you are new to the area and aren’t aware of what traffic is like here, I would definitely not consider traveling from Bethesda to a VA club. It is not worth it. If you end up having to do a little driving it’s easier to go from Bethesda to Gaithersburg (Tiburones or the new Quince Orchard Swim Academy) or Bethesda to College Park/Fairland (Machine).

I don't know about the other two but Bethesda is perfectly fine and actually a great public option if you are just interested in summer swim for your kids and don't want/need to overhead and extra expense of club membership - like people who spend time overseas or traveling extensively over the summer, for example.

Teams are win at all cost. Lack team spirit. Mostly just ringers who show up on Saturdays. Not the fun swim team communities you can find elsewhere

VA is a better to place to live if you have swimmers vs. MD/DC where the demand is greater than the supply. But, as someone else said, try The Capitol Sea Devils...they may have some space. They have sites in both MD and DC.

Is VA too far? York has their last evaluations Sept 8. There are some practice locations with openings it looks like.

No one should choose where they live based on swim clubs.

Could you try NCAP Tyson’s, York at Yorktown, Machine at Tuckahoe — could you live in McLean instead of Bethesda? If you are on the Virginia side, my hunch is there are still spots available. (We are at an NCAP location with a robust national team and there are still spots even in the 9U and 9-12 practice groups.)
