But they can proactively call the parents to offer assistance, right? Or see in ASPEN that the student enrolled elsewhere?

On the Aspen side of things, that only works for DCPS to DCPS transfers where the kids should have been auto-pulled off the rolls anyway. DCPCS doesn’t show up in Aspen/pull kids off automatically and that’s where the biggest issue lies.

Take it from a data nerd who has spent a lot of time digging in to the lottery waitlist data: Take the September offer.

At many schools, your chances of admittance double or triple if you’re willing to do that. If the school and/feeder pattern is what you want, eat a few weeks of discomfort for your kid and take the offer. It may very well be your only shot.

Especially at Title I schools, I imagine they are waiting to see how many more IB kids in grades K and up appear on Thursday when PK starts, and next week after Labor Day. Schools near Eagle Academy's locations are probably being particularly cautious about taking kids off the waitlist.

+1 If we get a call I'm expecting it to be early/mid-next week. They can't just hand out spots immediately only to turn around and find out that a kid was sick the first day of school.

Thank you. Honestly nothing is making me feel more secure in my desire to switch schools than my kid starting school at our current school and dealing with the same crap we've been dealing with for several years. Good point about kids picking up on anxiety -- we are just going to stay strong and make it sound like whatever happens was the plan all along. Lol.

This is the thread for the very desperate I guess.

Would love to hear any stories of people getting offers this week or next. Like others I dread teh idea of pulling my kid from their current school at this point in the school year but I'm looking ahead and reading the writing on the wall and still think the pain today will be well worth it in the coming years. If it doesn't happen we'll play the lottery again in the spring and hope for the best (moving not an option for at least 4 more years which is very frustrating).

Anyway good luck to everyone who is still holding out hope for a hail mary touchdown pass here in the final seconds of the 4th quarter! I'm with you!

Ugh I'm number one on the waitlist for our #1 school and I feel like there's a decent chance we might get a call after school starts. But DD is really sensitive and I know it will be a huge deal to her if we pull her from her school after the year begins. We switched schools after PK3 and she spent an entire year asking when she could go back to her old school to see her old teachers.

We went to meet the teacher today and she was so nervous and upset going in and then so giddy coming out, excited to be in a class with a friend from last year and to have a new "very pretty" teacher and I just am dreading this either way. I don't want to have to play the lottery again next year but I don't want to deal with emotional upheaval this year.

More like the "HRCS" hype has been exposed as nonsense.

Actually 6th grade has moved a little today. High hopes for next week!

Same here.

Think about what would need to happen to make a change.
A child who was enrolled yesterday informed the school that they would not be enrolling.

The situations where this would happen would be:
someone enrolled in EL Haynes (the only school I know that opened this week)
someone enrolled in a school that had spaces (I believe Cap City has PreK3 spaces if anyone is looking)
some parent finally got around after previously enrolling their child - to unenroll their child (Move or private school)

Next week when kids do not show up in spaces they enrolled in is when lists will move.

ITDS and BASIS also opened this week.
