I don’t “bench” but I do take a lot of time researching the food I eat. I do add whey powder to my smoothies b/c it helps fill me up when I’m only having a smoothie for lunch

I learned a long time ago to avoid “soy protein isolate” and I only go for cold processed whey powder

Yeah, like anything, the ingredients tell the real tale. Some are better than others. I keep collagen and plant protein for shakes on days when I need a quick breakfast. But I don’t have it daily. A few times a month.

I have no idea but I have avoided protein powder ever since I was subjected to secondary screening at the airport and the screened person in front of me was traveling with large amounts of protein powder. It repeatedly set the explosive detector off, which suggest some really yucky organic in those products (not to mention the poor woman with these after 15 minutes was hauled off to some sort of closed location, but anyhow). I concur with other posters who suggest actual food might be better, not just on this one anecdote.

I use protein powder and yes it’s processed just like so many other things in the American diet. I don’t see a reason to get all worked up over it. People who use protein powder still eat real food.

I drink it after a hard workout to help me recover. When I don’t I am sore, like immobile, for hours.

If you lift heavy, your body can utilize this protein source to repair your muscles.
If you don’t exercise but consume over 100g of protein a day, they just run the course thru your digestive system without actually working for your muscle.

"processing" is a scary word for "cooking".

What you should do is stop drinking chemicals, even pure chemicals like dihydrogen monoxide, which causes organ failure.

That’s exactly what it is.

Goodness.

I am working on my overall health and fitness, which includes doctor recommended advice to up my protein intake. I get most of it from "eating real foods" but will every couple of days have a bottle of Fairlife protein drink. I do it because it is often very convenient when I am on the run, I'm busy, I don't have the time or ingredients to cook, or I'm craving something drinkable and chocolate.

Do I think it is absolutely the best thing I could put in my body? No. But is it a perfectly healthy part of an overall diet and lifestyle? Absolutely yes.

NP. I don’t drink it and doubt most people on here do; it’s for gym bros.

Ultra processed junk.
