Yes!
I add rotisserie chicken, celery and carrots and consider it a complete meal.

My spouse also doesn't think a salad is a meal. Both soup and salads are appetizers in his mind. Even if they are hardy and have protein.

It is for us including husband. Soup has to contain meat and a carb (noodles or potstoes). We usuallt have a soup bar where everyone gets the main souo and adds more infredisnts to taste (cubed chicken, broccoli, cooked carrots etc)

100% no for my husband. He will eat a lot of bread AND will probably have cereal before bed.

The kids like having soup for dinner. I usually serve with a nice loaf of bread, or tortilla chips if it's chili or my black bean soup.

We married the same man. How is soup not a meal, but cereal is fine? Drives me crazy.

Is soup a standalone meal? Does soup need salad or other food to balance it out as a meal?

It depends on the soup. Hearty soups are definitely meals.

It doesn't really matter if some people consider it a meal or not. Your DH doesn't like the idea of soup as a meal. If this is something you and the rest of the family would enjoy, do it occasionally knowing it's not your DH's preference. He can either take one for the rest of the family or augment with additional food. I would not cook something frequently, though, if there was a member of my family that truly didn't enjoy it.

FWIW, I'm not a soup-as-a-meal person either...but if my kids and spouse loved it, I would eat it on occasion. That said, it's weird to not at least have bread with soup. Most people want something they can chew as part of a meal.

I come from a soup family, my husband does not. Our kids don't really like it either, unless it's ramen. Sometimes I do make soup, but it's so hearty it's really stew

It depends on what you are used to. I've noticed that there are some families that have had soup for a meal and others that wouldn't, so it depends on how you were raised.

The easy thing to do is keep sandwich materials on hand (lunch meat and bread) and if soup is the meal, he can make himself a sandwich to go along with the meal.

I always try to serve a vegetable at dinner, so I’d add salad or another vegetable and bread as well unless the soup has noodles.

My family also aren’t soup people. So I usually make soup for my own lunches instead.

For me it is, for my husband it's an appetizer. It's something we bicker about. I'm not making a second meal. If dinner is a soup and bread, that's all I've made. He's on his own if he needs something more substantial.
