I also love Madrid. I think the people who don’t like it were probably there for only a day and didn’t get the chance to really visit the city.

Ghent, Belgium. Totally unexpected. Very small, not touristy and really enjoyed it. It's often overlooked by Bruges which is cute, but is very touristy and felt sort of Disney-ish to me.

OP here and I *loved* Bermuda. Would return in a heartbeat. It’s not particularly interesting but so, so beautiful.

Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket). I was so worried about having issues with the water/food, mosquitos, heat and humidity, and just general culture shock. None of that was an issue (it was hot and humid, but there was plenty of A/C). The people are lovely, the vibe was laid back, and the food was delicious and so cheap. Would go back, and this was a place that I never wanted to go in the first place.
