Subject: What Does it Mean if a Woman is Called a "Basic"?
Hmm. I have always used it to describe someone who is nice enough but has more mainstream interests than me, meaning that we would get along fine but not have a closer bond. But maybe others intend it as an insult.

My 16-year-old calls me basic.
I don’t think of it as much of an insult but more as descriptive. It just means I’m unoriginal – doing whatever everybody else does – wearing Lululemon, going to Starbucks, etc.

It’s a stereotype kind of poking fun at a specific type of person. If you are a millennial who likes t swift, lives in lulu and uggs, loves her Stanley, stops by sbux daily etc etc. you might be basic. There are also basic bros and basic gen zs and many more varieties now.
I think it picked up a lot of steam when people were joking about “basic fall girls” (psl, leggings, scarf, high boots or uggs).
In any case, it’s primarily used as a way to describe someone’s vibe now. If it was a dig before it’s lost its edge now and being a bit basic isn’t necessarily seen as bad.

She probably said just a basic. The last part isn’t used as much. It’s pretty much just a common word now. It’s not a total insult but it’s not a compliment at all.
