Maybe it was the parents and they are the ones into it. Maybe the kid doesn’t want it and thinks it is tacky but doesn’t care that much either way. My aunt and uncle saved every single trophy and medal for my three cousins and put it in their living room. They are STILL in their living room. We are all adults in our our mid to late 40s now. It’s always been a big joke in the family that the house was and still is like that.

I might give a chuckle at having a photo presentation on loop but I would go as far as calling it tacky.

Now if they just had display case for their kids trophies, and always had them stored in those cases, I wouldn’t give it a second thought; I don’t care how choose to decorate their home.

A few weeks ago we were at a similar party for a young lady headed to swim at a division 1 university on full scholarship and she didn't have anywhere near the display. The contrast was interesting.

A graduation party is celebrating something that is completed. Why would a kid who plans to continue competitive swimming do the same thing?

I think it's fine, but it's okay for you to think it's tacky. You seem bothered, which I don't really understand. There are plenty of things I see and think to myself, "That's tacky," but I won't continue to harp on it or think about it later unless it's something that actually affects me. Some random teen's birthday party would not fall into that category.

No. It’s not tacky to show off the accomplishments of the graduate. Celebrating their accomplishments was the literal purpose of the party.
