I don't engage with stupidity. Unfoturnately most people are rude, stupid and love drama. It isn't antisocial behavior. It is a complete lack of social norms that make it difficult to engage with others.


Ya might want to look in the mirror on that one.

I sit in the front if there are four of us. Older men from other countries are the most interesting. They like to share their stories and experiences. I imagine it would be boring not ever talking so probably a nice mix of quiet rides and chatty rides is best.

I didn't know this option existed, but I also never had an issue with talkative uber drivers. They give you space and unless you are the chatty person it will be a silent drive. If you get in and stay silent it's unlikely the driver will try to engage your or "entertain" you.

They were kind- it's not their responsibility to be consoling their uber driver

I always have my ride set on "quiet, please" mode, and it has never once occurred to me that it's rude. I'd imagine these drivers get tired of entertaining their rides all day long. I am warm at the pick up and grateful at the drop off, and I always tip well.

Uber/Lyft steal money from drivers and customers. In addition, they retaliate and sabotage the drivers.

I’m a part time driver and love no chat rides! However I’ll gladly engage in chat, mostly about travel when it’s clear the passengers want to chat. I have a stellar 5* rating for both Uber and Lyft and most of passengers tip very well.

What does her gender have to do with anything?


I'm the person who wrote this post. Do you find it offensive that I mentioned gender? It seems like an innocuous detail to my anecdote. Not sure why you found it so triggering!

Funny story. My kid and I got a cab in NYC recently. It was about 30 mins ride, and the driver talked non-stop, including with my son, but just generally about how he came to NYC, his life, etc. Towards the end my 8 year old told the driver "You talk a lot. I am getting tired of it." Not the best way handle, but was so true.

Exactly. Isolation and walls make for bad psyches.
